Triple Diesel Turbo Explodes

cummins Engine

When you're building an extreme performance engine, there's a very real chance that things will go wrong. Like, explosively wrong.

Say, for instance, if you're running three turbos on a Cummins diesel engine and you're dyno-testing the life out of it.

This extremely blown engine video comes to us by way of YouTuber Bruce Wilson. The doomed engine was built by D&J Precision Machine and Firepunk Diesel, both of Ohio. According to the Reddit thread where we found this video, the engine was pushing 146 psi of boost and more than 2000 horsepower when it popped.

And hoo boy, did it pop. We've seen plenty of blown engines that blew a head gasket, threw a connecting rod, or lunched a valvetrain, but we've never seen an engine block just ... disappear like that. You have to feel bad for the poor rotating assembly, suddenly spinning naked in midair.

We're just glad this happened in the (somewhat) controlled environment of a dyno room, and not out on the road or at a drag strip event. Can you imagine the mayhem that flying engine block would create?
